Sharpe park November hike

Our hiking choice for today was to head to one of our favorite locations - Sharpe park!
It was a glorious blue sky day to enjoy the Madrona, Ocean views, interesting plants & mushrooms and best of all some Porpoise swimming by during our lunch break at Porpoise point.

Something is laying on the log in the photo below. Can you see it?

Porpoise point, our lunch spot.

Looking back at our lunchspot.

As usual I'm short on words and long on photos, but can you blame me with views like this?!

Mon Oeuvre ~ Under Cover Maker Mat sew along

I thought I'd join a "small project" sew along. I wanted to use up some of my scraps from past quilts and practice my free motion quilting, this project did all of that.
I follow @lillyellasworld on Instagram, she had presented this sew along in September of 2016 and again this year. She includes a free pattern and instruction in the "sew along" I opted to do mine without the thread catcher. She includes both a butterfly and a hummingbird foundation paper pieced pattern for the center block in the pocket panel. I chose the hummingbird.

From start to finish:
I pieced together some of my scrap batting.

The mat body quilt sandwich is complete and quilted. I practiced making what I call "crazy loops" for my free motion quilting. I just practiced moving the fabric around until I felt comfortable. I laid out my cut fabric choices and foundation paper pieced templates. I like to work in an organized fashion, step by step. I colored in my colors on the practice paper, but I printed out the wrong facing color sheet, oops. Doesn't really matter though, my phone book page templates were printed and cut out correctly for a left facing hummingbird. The coloring sheet is just to help me stay on track as a reference.

Time to begin the foundation paper piecing.

I love how it turned out.

Then I put all of the pocket panel together.

Time to assemble and bind.

What a fun project!
The under side.

The top side.

In use, under my sewing machine❤

Artist Point road, snow walk

Since it was a beautiful blue sky day my husband decided that we would walk the Artist Point road. The gate is shut so it's just foot traffic now. As you can see the road is pretty bare at the gate. Table mountain is peaking through the trees.

Here's a better view of Table mountain, without the gate.

It didn't take us long to get to where the road was snow covered.

I loved experiencing my first snow walk of the year. What a day for it! It was chilly in the shade and warm in the sun.
Such a cold blue ice area around this little puddle.

A rabbit print?

The snow was so dry, it kicked up like sand.

A view of the snow topped range of mountains in the distance.

Ferns and ice.

Just a few more photos of our day.

Shuksan

Our lunch spot, just below the Table mountain trail.

Our lunch view. I loved that there were hardly any foot steps in the view. So beautiful.

Mount Baker

A perfect setting for my first snow angel of the year!

Shuksan and my snow angel ❤

After lunch we walked around the Artist Point area, I took the photo below of my husband at the viewpoint looking at Shuksan and the surrounding mountains❤.

Our snow walk couldn't have been better.

As we drove on down the road after our walk, I took a photo of the Ravens with a dusting of ice.

Garmin stats:
total miles walked - 5.68 miles
total ascent - 942 feet
maximum altitude: 5062 feet
