South Side Loop (B'ham)
Today's hike turned into an "in town" walk about. We decided to start at Boulevard Park, and of course we got hot Lattes at the Woods coffee shop "to go" for the walk. We've been having some wind and cold weather in our area. Thank goodness the wind has stopped, so our walk today was just chilly. We have another wind event and "some" snow in the upcoming forecast for our area for the next few days. We tend to get high winds from B.C.'s Frazier River valley which dries up our potential for much snow accumulation, so we'll just have to wait and see what we get.
Anyway we layered up and walked a nice loop route through south Bellingham.

We headed south on the South Bay trail towards Fairhaven.
From there we headed to the Interurban trail and enjoyed the frosty, icey forest.
When we got to Fairhaven park we joined the 100 Acre Woods.
I found a heart rock in the 100 Acre Woods!
Snow on Ferns, not a usual sight for us.
I loved this twisted old tree, still living on.
We joined the Interurban trail again and stayed on it only long enough to cross the road and join the Connelly Creek trail.

We passed Joe's Garden and headed towards the Sehome Hill Arboretum.
We passed a great old tree just as we turned left in the above photo.
Instead of walking to the top and the view tower, we hiked around the Arboretum.
We made our way through the WWU campus.
I spied some Crocus in bloom.
Now it was time to do some side walk walking, away from the forest trails.
We walked down the Sehome Hill Historic district
and made our way to Laurel Park, where we then took the Laurel sidewalk trail and walked downhill to join the South Bay trail again

Ending our walk at Boulevard Park again. Notice the ice on the rocks along the water.
