Friday my husband and I checked out a "new to me" trail, the South Fork trail. I found a couple of posts on the Internet about the trail you can read them HERE (Whatcom Kulshan review) & HERE (alltrails review) but they aren't recent. Since those reviews were posted the trail has had quite a bit of renovation. We went in as far as the first major creek crossing and then followed a side trail to the south fork of the Nooksack river for a lunch break. It's a very pleasant, flat trail along the river and through some old clear cut loggings.
We hiked as far as this creek, we hope to come back and cross the creek and follow the trail farther on another day.
We ate lunch at this nice river side beach.
First ripe huckleberry sighting of the year.
Interesting plethora of small mushrooms on these trees.
Endomondo stats for the South Fork trail hike:
total miles hiked - 7.25 miles
Then on Sunday we did a trail run on the Chuckanut mtn. trails. We have a couple of Spartan races coming up so we need to get in some serious (uphill) trail running. I was pleased with how we did.
Here is the route we followed in list form:
North Chuckanut mtn. trail head
Arroyo/Interurban trail
Arroyo park
exited the park and ran on South Lake Samish road towards the Pine and Cedar trail head parking lot
then ran to Pine lake (out and back)
Raptor ridge
Lost lake trail
Arroyo/Interurban
Chuckanut Falls
North Chuckanut trail head parking lot.
New trail kiosks with emergency area info.
Chuckanut Falls
Endomondo stats:
total miles ran - 10.89
minimum altitude - 89 feet
maximum altitude - 1623 feet
total ascent - 2198 feet
total descent - 2208 feet
