PCT Section H Day four, Knife edge trip

Another get up early day. We would be heading back across the Knife edge, northbound this time. We wanted plenty of time so we could enjoy the views.
It was a smoky and a bit of a colorful sunrise looking towards Mount Adams from our camp site.

The moon was still in the sky.

Heading back up the trail, and at our trail junction again. Mount Adams clearing out a bit but the morning fog was still low in the valley.

Mount Adams again at a high camp? with a cairn.

Heart rock❤

Click on the photo below to see Mount Saint Helens in the center of the photo almost hidden in the haze.

Obsidian shining in the sun on the distant hillside.

Walking through large rocks shaped by Volcanic activity and Glacier movement.

Click the photo below to see both Mount Adams and Mount Saint Helens in the distance.

Same photo but with us❤

A meadow of Bistort

Great wispy clouds in the sky with Goat lake & Mount Rainier in the distance.

A closer look at Goat lake.

Sitting down to rest before heading towards the Knife edge.

A nice snow melt lake with Mount Rainier peeking over the ridge.

Time for the rocky walk and the snow fields.

Walking above the Glacier.

We decided that the snow was much icier than the previous day. The morning sun hadn't come around the corner enough to soften where we'd be walking, so on came the microspikes.

My husband went across first, then came back and told us the microspikes had worked well.

Looking back at my brother and sister in law enjoying their Yaktrax (his) and Microspikes (hers).

Looking back at the Glacier and surrounding snow fields.

I never tired of the view of the Knife edge and Mount Rainier constantly before us.

Photo op!

My brother and sister in law enjoying the view of Old Snowy.

We noticed Goats were in the large snow field on the right hand side of the slope in the photo below.

A closer look

Back to our journey across the spine.

We went off trail for a rest at the top of this hill with the cairn on it.

Back at Coyote junction

and the ever sweet smelling Lupine.

Lupine, Monkey flowers and Aster - Nature's bouquet.

When we got to the creek we refilled our bottles.

After refilling our water bottles my husband decided a good pour over the head would be nice.

He said it felt great!

PCT❤

We made it to Lutz lake for the night.

What a day, I really enjoyed going both directions over the Knife edge trail. If I had to choose, I'd head south. I feel more confident going uphill in loose rock. It never was bad but I found I had to focus a bit more when we were heading north and going downhill more.
